Spud and Daisy talk to Square…….

Added on 8th March 2014

Daisy – Hi Square, Spud tells me you play a lot of golf.

Square – That is right Daisy I do. I usually play at least once a week and sometimes at the weekends too, mostly at Liphook Golf Course.

Spud – And what is more Daisy she is very good at it! Look at this photo of her celebrating a hole in one.

Daisy –  what is a hole in one?square golf hole in one

Square It is when you hit the ball just once and it goes all the way down the fairway straight into the little hole in the green. It is very difficult to do, some people play golf all their lives and never get one.  I have been lucky enough to achieved it twice in the whole time I have been playing golf and the first time was beginners luck just after I started playing. It can be an expensive achievment as if you get a hole in one the eitquette is to buy everyone in the club house a round of drinks.

Daisy – Oh wow Square you must be really good. I have never even been on a golf course although I enjoy chasing those hard little white balls around the place especially on hard ground because then they bounce which is great fun.

Spud – A good thing about where Square plays, which is quite unusual for a golf course, is that Liphook allows well behaved dogs onto their course as long as all deposits are removed, if you know what I mean! I have to stay on my lead because otherwise I want to run about and say hello to everybody and that doesn’t go down too well!

Square – Yes Spud, you do have to stay on the lead!

Daisy – So Square what is it that you like about golf?

Square – well Daisy, I love being outside come rain or shine and it is very sociable. I get to see a lot of friends and it is a chance for a good old chinwag. There are lots of members, but if you wanted to just try it out for the first time you can join as an introductory member at Liphook, so you don’t need a handicap as you would elsewhere. There is an Open day on Saturday 17th May which will provide a round of golf for those who can play or lessons for beginners, plus a lunch and the opportunity to meet other members and there is no charge for the day!

Spud – So is Petersfield area a good place to live if you like playing golf?

Square – Yes Spud, it is great because as well as Liphook Golf Club there is also The Petersfield Golf Club and a Pay and Play course and then not far away there is Cowdray Golf Club and Goodwood Golf Course too. Blackmoor is another great course in the area and Blacknest Golf and Country Club can be found near Alton, so there is lots of choice.
